You don’t have to figure this out alone. These organizations offer education, advocacy, and support for foster parents, adoptive parents, kinship caregivers, and adoptees. This list is not exhaustive, but it’s a strong place to start.

Foster Care & Adoption Information

  • Child Welfare Information Gateway

    Government resource with in-depth information on foster care, adoption, trauma, and child welfare laws. Includes searchable databases of state statutes, adoption resources, and support services by state.

  • AdoptUSKids

    National project helping connect children in foster care with adoptive families. Also offers parent support, education, and resources for families at every stage.

  • Families Rising

    Advocacy, education, and support for adoptive, foster, and kinship families, especially families parenting children with trauma histories.

  • Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption

    Focused on finding permanent homes for children waiting in foster care and providing resources for families throughout the adoption process.

  • National Foster Parent Association

    A national voice for foster, kinship, and adoptive parents offering support, advocacy, training resources, and free online training through the NFPA Training Institute.

  • FosterClub

    Youth-led organization supporting young people in foster care and the families and caregivers who show up for them.

  • Attachment & Trauma Network

    Resources and education for parents raising children impacted by early trauma and attachment challenges.

  • Adoptee Rights Law Center

    Legal advocacy and education around adoptee rights and access to original birth records.

  • Adoption Knowledge Affiliates

    Education and advocacy focused on ethical adoption practices and adoptee perspectives.

  • National Council for Adoption

    The leading national resource on adoption issues providing education for families, adoptees, and organizations and advocating for sound policies so every child can thrive.

Kinship Care

  • Generations United

    National advocacy and support for grandparents and relatives raising children.

  • Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network

    Connects kin caregivers to benefits and services that support them and the children they are raising. Includes a searchable list of kinship navigator programs organized by state so families can find what is available where they live.

These are just a few of the organizations that help. A lot of states also have organizations, educations, advocacy and support for foster and adoptive parents, kinship caregivers and adoptees.
