A full year of honest preparation, from your first yes through your first year of placement.
State training teaches you the rules. The Channel Guide teaches you what those rules actually mean once a child is standing in your living room at 9pm with a trash bag of belongings.
This is a 12 month program built from real experience, not a manual. It walks you through four seasons of your first year, each one built around what actually happens during that stretch, with real tools you keep long after the year ends.
The channel guide is the one who knows the water. The person who steers a ship through the narrow, dangerous passage into safe harbor, because they have made the trip before and you have not.
That is what this is. A full year of someone who has walked it, walking it beside you.
How it works
Fourteen private, one on one sessions across four seasons of your first year, plus a monthly check in call just for you, thirty minutes, no agenda, just where are you and what needs a hand. Two additional sessions are held in reserve for the things that do not wait for a scheduled call, a sudden allegation, a placement move, a court date that goes sideways. And woven through all of it, we work on keeping your own nervous system steady, so you can stay regulated enough to be what this child needs, without ending up on the floor yourself.
First Light
Months 1 to 3
The first weeks hit differently than anyone tells you they will. Exhaustion. Grief you did not expect. A wave of disruption to your entire household. This season names that shift for what it is, so you do not mistake normal overwhelm for personal failure.
You will also build the organizational backbone this work requires, clear documentation habits, understanding the paperwork that comes with placement, and communicating with caseworkers without losing your footing or your boundaries. And because the door you walked through is the same door most children walk back out of, we talk honestly about reunification from the start, what it means, how fast it can move, and how to hope for a child's whole life even when that means hoping they go home.

The Narrows
Months 4 to 6
This is where the friction shows up, birth family visits, court delays, the slow grind of system bureaucracy. This season prepares you to advocate fiercely for the child in your home while keeping your own household steady underneath it all.
You will move out of reactive, hyper vigilant mode and into calm, confident leadership, learning to trust what you are already sensing about the child in your care, even when nobody else is naming it, and even when the professionals in the room want to explain everything as trauma when something else might be underneath it.

Finding the Current
Months 7 to 9
By now you are balancing real complexity, a child's trauma responses blending into your family's rhythm, case plans shifting without warning, court rulings changing the ground under your feet, sometimes with no warning at all. This season is about staying centered when the plan changes again, and again.
You will also work through the fog that shows up around the harder decisions, long term placement questions, legal steps, and what your family can actually hold.

Home Port
Months 10 to 12
After a long, hard year, this season is about getting your light back. Whatever this year led to, adoption, reunification, or continued fostering, we make space for the goodbye if there was one, and for the rest and the break that comes after it, before anything else.
This is where you build what carries you past year one, real structures of safety and support that do not disappear the day the program ends.

Once you complete the full Channel Guide, you are not just handed a certificate and sent on your way. You will have three graduation sessions available to you for a full year after finishing, no additional cost, whenever you need to reach back out.
Best for
Families who are licensed and stepping into their first placement, or already inside their first year, who want a steady, experienced guide beside them through all of it. Not a handout. A human.
Enrollment
The Channel Guide is a full year of personal, one on one guidance, so I take only a small number of families each year. That is the only way I can be truly present for each one. Because of that, spots are limited and enrollment is by inquiry.
