The Channel Guide
This program did not start on a whiteboard.
It started in conversations. With families who had done everything right, completed their training, passed their home study, said yes to a placement, and then found themselves completely alone inside one of the hardest experiences of their lives.
After working alongside foster and adoptive families and seeing firsthand what the system consistently leaves out, it became clear that what these families needed was not more information. It was someone in their corner for the long haul. Someone who had been on every side of this world and could walk with them through all of it, not just the beginning.
The Channel Guide
The channel guide is the one who knows the water. The person who steers a ship through the narrow, dangerous passage into safe harbor, because they have made the trip before and you have not.
That is what this is. A full year of someone who has walked it, walking it beside you.
The Channel Guide begins the moment a child is placed in your home and stays with you through your entire first year. Not a class you sit through before the hard part. Real support, in real time, during the most disorienting season of the whole journey, scheduled for the moments you need it most.
State training teaches you what the rules are. The Channel Guide teaches you what the rules actually mean when a scared child is standing in your living room at nine at night and the caseworker is not answering. It does not repeat your training. It translates it into real life.
How it works
One-on-one, across a full year, in three phases that follow your actual placement instead of a fixed classroom schedule. Sessions are scheduled when the need is highest. And woven through all of it, I help you keep your own nervous system steady, with grounding and reset practices, so you can stay regulated enough to be what this child needs, without ending up on the floor yourself.
Phase One, The First 90 Days
The first night and the first week. Managing behaviors without panic. The two week adrenaline crash nobody warns you about, and how to catch your body before it crashes. Talking to caseworkers. Early burnout prevention. Understanding what you are actually seeing in this child versus what you expected.
Phase Two, Settling In (Months 4 through 8)
Stabilization and routines. The relationship that can finally build now that you truly know this child. Understanding diagnoses and behaviors at a deeper level. The grief that lives inside even the good days. Protecting your marriage and your household. Navigating disruptions and what they mean for the child and for you. Communicating with the agency for the long haul.
Phase Three, The Long Game (Months 9 through 12)
Reunification, and how to hold your own heart while a child goes home. What permanency actually looks like, in all its forms. Sibling case plan resets when siblings are separated or placed differently. The decision point, what comes next for your family. And sustaining this work without losing yourself in it.
Best for
Families who are licensed and stepping into their first placement, or already inside their first year, who want a steady, experienced guide beside them through all of it. Not a handout. A human.
Enrollment
The Channel Guide is a full year of personal, one-on-one guidance, so I take only a small number of families each year. That is the only way I can be truly present for each one. Because of that, spots are limited and enrollment is by inquiry.
